The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

No sound - device not recognized, nor drivers located.

Hi.  I have an msi motherboard, amd athlon 64 Processor 3200+, 1.99 GHz, 1.43 GB Ram, E-machines T6212 running Windows Pro XP with PCI-express -ATI Radeon Express 200 supporting directX 9...  I bought this in early April of 2005.  I use a westinghouse 19" LCD flat panel/speakers.  In July everything was running O.K.

In August, I have no sound, my system cannot find a sound device, and my device manager cannot locate a sound driver nor an earlier installation (rollback) of one.  The system does say that the 'sound' device legacy audio is working properly.  However, it also states that there is no driver for this device, and the property details are blank.

Please help me.  If you need other information, I will try to get it to you right away.  I am beginning to think that some of the hardware that came with my machine is no longer on my motherboard.  My son has been in and out of my box helping me with my problems, he aslo has an e-machine.  Maybe I have moved the files around somehow and the system cannot locate them.  I am running out of patience, and this is taking too long to fix for what should have been an easy problem.  Oh, and when I plug the original speakers that came with the system in, they don't work either.

I would like to know how to be sure that I still have the system that I originally purchased - all my gaming graphics, etc.... like the double layer DVD-+RW drive.

Thanks for your help in advance.  You guys are great!
