desktop settings keep reverting back

I have winxp sp2 but have had this problem all along about once a week some times more some times less my desktop display revirts back to the xp defalt I have it set on classic  when I go to display it is still set on classic so I have to pick another then back to classic and apply then it will apply does any one have any ideas I have been using win classic sence win 3.0  and dont like the new style  thanks  wayne
