IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL one is bugcheck code 0A and it is usually caused by bad ram. Run memtest to stress test the ram.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsHi,
A bit vague this one but I was hoping someone might have come accross it before.
My PC has recently (for about a month now) started displaying a blue screen. It has happened nearly every day for a month (my PC is on all the time) - BUT it has only happened when the PC is unattended - it has never happened while I have been working on it. I have powersave enabled to switch my monitor off after 10 minutes and I wondered if this was causing the problem. I have tried updating the drivers for my Nvidia GForce 6600 which has made no difference.
The messages on the blue screen vary every time, I have had the IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL one, The PAGE_FAULT one (can't remember the exact wording) and the KERNEL_MODE_TRAP - what does this suggest?
I wouldn't be overly worried but when I switch my PC off from the blue screen there is an alarming scraping noise coming from within (sounds like one of the hard drives) - it doesn't make this noise when I switch off normally or during normal operation. My concern is that the hard disk heads aren't being parked (does that still happen these days?) and the disk(s) will become damaged.
I haven't installed any new hardware or software in the past month so it is all a bit of a mystery. My PC is P4 3.4GHz with 1GB Ram.
Can anyone suggest what might be causing the problems or how I might start to diagnose it?

tim_qui - I don't have the HDD set to power off. If it is the HDD I need to act quickly as they are out of guarantee soon.
Trouble is the Maxtor utility I have to test drives won't work as I have them in a Raid 0/1 array using the Intel Matrix Storage Utility. Is there an another way of testing the drives? CHKDSK doesn't show any errors (well a few security descriptors, nothing serious).
cpc2004, thanks for tip - I will try memtest overnight.
Okay then, well, once you've told me the model. I will ask you to do somethings for me okay?
1. Direct yourself to C:\Windows\minidumps
2. Send me the last 5 minidumps here [iq454@otmail.com] as an attachment. Last means (the most recent) So if you have to, order the folder by date.
If you don't have that many, then send what you have.
I'll debug em and see what's causing the problem.
Zero
that's [hotmail.com] :) sorry about that typo.
To turn page editor.
My email address is not being used as a means of business, I have to use it because there is no other way for me to get his dumps seeing as EE doesnt allow attachments.
I thank you for your understanding and hope it wont be removed yet.
The system event 1001/1003 and minidump is the useful debugging information.
Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> System -> Event 1001/1003. Copy the content and paste it back here
Zip 5 to 6 minidumps to a zip file and attach it at any webspace. I will study the dump and find out the culprit.
Get public webspace
Go to www.geocities.com - sign up for an account (they are owned by Yahoo - if you have a yahoo account, then you just need to activate the geocities part of it there). Then use their tools to upload the file.
Hi,
The modem is a BT Voyager 100 ADSL Modem.
I have uploaded the minidump files to:
http://www.geocities.com/p
For some reason it has only dumped the last one that happened (I had one on Saturday that Windows noticed and did an error report, normally Windows boots up without even noticing it has BSOD before)
Thanks.
Thrree minidumps are crashed at gwausb.sys. Two minidumps crashed with bugcheck code 7F. The running processes are bittorrent.
Suggestion
1) upgrade device driver gwausb.sys
2) upgrade bittorrent

Okay, this is what to do.
It is your modem drivers as I suspected previously.
You have a DSL 200 modem right? Is it a Revision A or B? If A, I'm sure you have the latest drivers, you must rollback the drivers to fix it.
Download these for revision A. DSL200v1.11.zip from this site.
http://www.dlink.com.au/te
If you have a revision B modem, you may need to send it back to your ISP and tell them what's up, and also tell them the drivers arent certified for XP. Neither are. If they tell you it doesn't matter, tell them, "the expert said it did".! No questions.
If you don't have this modem, you need to tell me which model you have.
Zero
Okay, they don;t have older versions of your drivers. You have the cd right with the newest drivers? Theres two things you can do.
1. Download these for revision A. DSL200v1.11.zip from this site. And extract or copy only the "gwausb.sys" driver, and do a search on your machine for this driver, and replace it.
http://www.dlink.com.au/te
2. Email or call tech support for BT here
http://www.voyager.bt.com/
Tell them that your modem is bringing up a BSOD with the driver "gwausb.sys" and that you would like a replacement modem, with certified drivers for XP. Or, tell them if they have older drivers you can rollback to.
Or tell your ISP so they can give you a new modem. It should be free of charge.
Good Luck

Points is not important to me as I have enough points for this year. I also help people to resolve blue screen at other free forum. Actually I spend more time at other forum more than here. You can find that I have overr 1000 posts at techspot.com to provide free service to resolve blue screen problem.
Something I want to clarify.
>>>
you only got the Analysis up before me because I was asleep
<<<
I don't know when you will analyse the dump. I download the dump from webspace and every experts have the fair chance. I don't take any favorite at this issue. Base upon my experince bugcheck 0A is usually related to faulty ram. I recorded every problem that I resolved. If you refer the blue screen problems at this forum, most experts (nobus, rindi and etc) recommend to run memtest.
<<
Maybe learn to debug properly and stop hijacking other peoples ideas.
>>
I don't understand what you mean. I don't hijack your idea. I base upon the finding from the dump analysis and make recommendation.
>>
hey cpc...I was first to ask about his modem (even before the dumps)
<<
Are you fortune teller? How do you know the problem is related to modem?
I know you from techspot. Props to you there. Im not saying youre point hungry, just stating the fact that I asked first.

I was first to ask for his dumps, if you were first, I wouldnt have even asked since another expert was already on the case. But you tried to nudge me out of the way (hijacked my idea).

Because I have special poewrs. Read from the first post of mine, and you'll see I asked if he had a ADSL modem, before I asked for his dumps.

I wonder if I could ask one last favour (I will post a new question if you want)
Having got rid of the BT stuff, my PC just rebooted completely! No BSOD or anything.
Any chance you could have a look at this minidump:
http://www.geocities.com/p
And let me know what has caused it?
Thanks in advance.
You don't have to give me points. I help you not for getting extra points. Your windows crashes at Crypto.SYS.

Right that explains it. I have just upgraded my VPN client (It is Juniper Netscreen) - problem is I haven't got the old version (the CD was lost by a colleague!)
I will see how I get on, hopefully it was just a glitch.
Problem with these crashes is that once you have had one they seem to get worse not better.
Thanks for your help, it is very much appreciated.
I only have one VPN, I have tried reinstalling it. I am just trying to find an updated download of the SafeNet SoftRemote client (I have version 10.3.3 (Build 4)) - I found a 10.5.1 but it wanted my name and address and stuff - something I would prefer not to give. (Although I am licensed to use it)

It sounds like the HDD may be going bad. Do you have it set to turn off in powersaver settings?
