Ive seen apps years ago in the DOS days that could remove the folders all at once without deleting the files one at a time..
Anyone know of a utility to do this in win98, ME or XP?
If I delete these files one at a time it takes DAYS... I cant do that...

For sake of an example, if you have a lot of .tmp files that begin with the tilde, you can drop to a command prompt and type:
del \~*.tmp /s <hit enter>
as long as they don't have read only attributes, this will go through every directory and del all files meeting the above switches.
If you wanted to live dangerous, you can type:
del \*.tmp /s <hit enter> and it will delete ALL files ending in .tmp but there are some files named donotdelete.tmp in some folders at times.
If you are familiar with wildcard expressions in DOS, you can see how you can customize this to meet your needs. the \ checks from the root and the /s searches all sub-folders.

Thanks but the del command still deletes the files one at a time... I need an app that can remove the whole folder i.e. d:\backups all at once directly inside the fat table instead of deleting each individual file and then removing the directory.. This way works for a few hundred files... but takes days with a few hundred thousand files.

ahhh, ok,
have you tried the "deltree" command?
That will delete a folder, subfolder and all contents.
It works like this, say your folder is c:\drivers\modem that you want to delete, and maybe in that modem folder there are folders for Window 98, 95, ME, XP, etc. you can type deltree c:\drivers\modem <hit enter> confirm yes, and the whole folder and files are gone.

Hi,
Have you tried holding "ctrl" while highlighting ALL the folders, when all the folders that you want to delete are highlighted, let go of the ctrl button, rightclick choose delete to delete them all.(files inside the folder will also be deleted of course)
