These error codes are pretty generic, but I have seen this specific event with bad video cards...  If you have a spare, that would be one way to ck it...

The problem maybe related to faulty ram and it is worthwhile to run the memtest to stress test the ram.

The system event log and the minidump has the most useful diagnostic information. When Windows crashes with blue screen, it writes a system event 1001 or 1003 and a minidump to the folder \windows\minidump.

Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> System -> Event 1001/1003. Copy the content and paste it back here and I want at least 4 to 5 system event records. It is definitely useful to analysis the problem.

Zip 5 to 6 minidumps to a zip file and attach it at any webspace. I will study the dump and find out the culprit.

All of your minidumps are crashed with same symptom. I believe that Norton AV is the culprit.m Upgrade and de-install Norton AV may resolve the problem.

the norton AV is the 2005 version  and the subscription doesn't expire for 6 months....so you're suggesting I uninstall it....then reinstall it?....won't that just  cause the same IRQ after reinstallation?

thanks

I would take cpc's word on this..  he is pretty good at giving Dump Advice... (much better than I am, that is for sure!)

Regardless, it cannot hurt, and only help your situation..

OK - I've uninstalled/reinstalled NAV and so far I've booted up 3 times with no error....My suspicion now is that it has something to do with NAV LiveUpdate...which runs at boot up when the virus defs are  x days old......that would explain why the halt wasn't happenning every day...yesterday I got the popup dialog to update the virus defs.......

this is my first time here....so do I "accept" the answer to award the points to cpc2004?...In any event, I'm going to wait several days before awarding the points to confirm this WAS the fix

also, can I ask as many questions as required, or am I limited to so many a month?.

thanks for your quick, professional help

I believe that  Norton AV has conflict with some of your software driver.  I can't determine which device driver has conflict with Norton AV. Report the problem to Symantec. Maybe the software vendor can identify the culprit.  A lot of users actiivate the live update.  Live update crashes windows only if it has conflict with your device driver. If Norton AV live update has known problem, search google can find the hit.
