The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Soundcard lcoking up pc after upgrade hardware !

hi fellow Experts.  Here is my problem.

Running Xp home and have sucsessfuly been using dman midiman pci audio card.  Originally I had it in an IMB Aptiva with onboard sound (crystal) but had to dissable onboard to load midiman card drivers etc...

Then had it working in a new pc without onboard sound and no problems.
Yesterday I upgraded the following,

Motherboard A8vmx ASUS
CPU AMD athlon 1800mhz  (formaly pentium 111 250 mhz)
Ram  1 gig  ( 2 chips)

I had to reinstall and reactivate xp to even get the thing booted up but before it would boot I had to remove the only pci card on the board (dman).  once booted and all is fine i dissable onboard sound card, told bios to use plug n play os and even dissabled a com port to make sure there was a spare irq for the card to use.
Plugged in the card and poof !  It hangs once I click on my user account (loading preferences) is displayed then a black screen and hangs.

I've tried other cards (lan cards etc..) in the pci slots and they work.  I know the cxard works cuz I try it on another pc and it finds it.

The strange thing is, even when I try to run the software driver program in hangs as well (just the hourglass showing)
I have the latest driver software.  in the manual it says drivers MUST be installed before card.  Also must have directx 5 or above.  I have latest directx.

Possible causes is irq conflict however I can't seem to get it resolved.
Any ideas ?  
p.s.  I know the motherboard can run the card as I've seen other setups similar to mine on the net.
