Question

No Desktop!

When I login to my Win. XP, I don't see the desktop anymore. control+Alt+Delete works and I can see the "Windows Security" Window only. This window works normally. This situation is the same in "Safe mode". How can I fix it without installing Windows again?

Can you get to the run dialogbox by holding down the windows key and pressing R ?

If so then have ur windows xp disc handy and in there type or copy and paste this command :

sfc /scannow

If that does not work then I suggest a repair install :

From TaskManager, got to the Applications tab and click on New task.  Enter Regedit and check this in your registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Find the SHELL key, double click on it. The value should be "Explorer.exe"  If there's anything after that, it's been changed.  Change it so it only has "Explorer.exe"

or press ctrl alt del to open task manager  then go to file at the top new task run  type in explorer press enter see if your desktop returns

When you say your desktop do you mean you see the start menu ie task bar and no icons, if thats the case then what about right clicking on the desktop and going arrange icons by --> show desktop icons

no desktop? does your computer boot up ok? and load windows then the wellcome screen, then??
have you changed your display settings to a limit your monitor cannot support?
See if you supply more details I would know straightaway what to suggest without scarring you with suggestions of performing serious repairs.
If this is the problem, then reboot your machine tap f8 a few times until you get to the advanced options screen, choose start windows vga mode. This will ll be really big. when windows loads back in r/click my computer properties hardware device manager  display adapters either update the drivers using your mainboard cd or teh cd that came with your video card.. or  uninstall it.. You will need your mainboard cd to re-install teh drivers for your video card.

Thank you very very much. You are a life saver. It worked fine. I had installed many programs on my Win. XP and I didn't want to reinstall it. Sorry for the points. That is all of what I had. I wish I had 1000 points to give you.
