Block Wheel on mouse for application

Experts!

Does anyone have knowledge of an application that would block the use of the mouse wheel?  I would need to be able to control the running of the program as only 1 application seems to lockup when the wheel is moved inside the program.  Since this is an older application I believe it was not written with the ability to accept imput from the wheel of the mice causing the lockup.

    Hi Lilshooter,
    Try Clean N Go.  it is meant to temporarily disable the mouse for cleaning, but you could use it for your program instead

    Looks interesting, does it disable the mouse all together or can I specify what parts of the mouse I want to disable?

    it disables the mouse altogether.
    if you are trying to disable just the wheel, why not disable the mouse wheel detection in the device manager?

    As stated, this is only for one application, these are lab machines that serve many functions, this application is only one of them.

    And they do need mouse functionality while working in this program, it's the wheel movement that locks up the program.

    What make and model are the mice? Hopefully not more than one brand. Logitech and Microsoft mice usually have a configuration application that allows you to configure in detail most if not all aspects of your mouse including application specific and global settings. The application specific settings are the key for your needs.

    Registry or device driver changes won't be appropriate since they would affect the mouse settings globally.

    Plug in an old com port mouse for use with this app, and a USB or PS2 wheel mouse for the rest. XP will happily use both.

    These are all Dell laser, I believe manufactured by Logitech mice.  We're talking 100's of machines, don't think there are that many com port mice left in the world :P  And I really don't want to give the students old mice with the mouseballs in them, they love to steal those...

    You can turn off the wheel altogether in Device manager - disable detection of the wheel, but this requires a reboot each time you switch. I can't see a way to turn it off temporarily. What is the program?

    Program is called Plato, it's a learning software.
