OK - I keep getting the BSOD pretty soon after Windows XP boots up and I've tried everything I can think of. I've combed the EE and Microsoft KB looking for suggestions and fixes, but it still keeps happening. Below is a list of the system specs and after that, the fixes I have tried and MS error messages....
Brand new:
Chaintech MOBO - 7NJL6, Socket A
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton Core CPU (333FSB)
Thermaltake Slim Volcano 8 CPU Cooler
400W power Supply
new case
RAM - 2-256MB SDRAM sticks
Seagate 40GB IDE HD
Windows XP Pro, SP2
Linksys USB wireless adapter
Pulled DVD/CD-ROM, 3.5" floppy and CD-RW from dead HP Pavilion and all seem to work fine in new system.
Running Speedfan shows all operating temps are good (38 - 42 degrees C)
What I've done so far:
Downloaded and installed the latest MOBO chipset drivers from nVidia (Chaintech supposedly has them, but the download file doesn't work)
Downloaded and installed the latest AGP driver for onboard nVIdia GeForce 5500
Downloaded and installed C-Media Audio chip drivers from Chaintech
Run Memtest - everything seems to check out OK (no errors)
Run scan disk - everything OK
Removed AV software, turned off Windows Firewall
Removed, reinstalled Wireless adapter drivers, checking for latest
in BIOS - disable auto restart after all errors
hold down F8 at bootup and selected "Last known good configuration"
Checked System Event Viewer and find the following entries at time of BSOD:
"Event ID 1003

When BSOD pops up the display seems to freeze or flicker and then up comes the BSOD. Sometimes happens when listening to music. Most often happens right after Windows boots up and windows login is underway. Here are some messages on BSODs;
STOP error and then
RNDISMP.SYS
Address F2E62AAC base at F2E5E000 datestamp 411 07C6B
Sometimes the file, instead of RNDISMP.SYS is Win.INI or Win32.sys
Sometimes the error message is DRIVER_IRQL_LESS_THAN_EQUA
L
I might be able to grab the minidump files, but I don't know what app to open them with to read the contents.
PLEASE HELP - lots of points to help me get this slick new system working reliably.
