Sorry abou that, it was 8:43am here when I posted the problem and I don't think my brain had fully awoken!
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsHi folks, I have a machine here that I've been wrestling with for a few months now.
It had numerous issues at first, but I seem to have reduced it to one:
When it dials-up to the internet, it Blue Screens:
STOP: 0x7F (0xD,0x0,0x0,0x0).
This error does not (as far as I can see after quite some testing) occur at any other time. I have a USB ethernet adapter connected to the machine which connects to my home LAN and its DSL conection and it works just fine.
The error seems to happen just after the dialling sequence is finished and one would expect the Verifying Username messages to come up.
Any ideas?
John.

Zip 5 to 6 minidumps to a zip file and attach it at any webspace. I will study the dump and find out the culprit. If you can't provide the minidumps, run memtest to stress test the ram. Make sure that your windows is not infected with spyware and adware.

May I ask why you need this modem? in case I have drastically misenterpretated your post.
but you state here you have dsl?
I have a USB ethernet adapter connected to the machine which connects to my home LAN and its DSL conection and it works just fine.
As far as I know there is no dial up with a dsl ??
Hi folks,
was away for the day there. The machine in question is a client's. They do not have DSL, so they need the modem to Dial-Up. I currently have the machine at my home office, where it is connecting to the internet through my DSL connection.
I can see why there might have been some confusion! :-)
I hope to follow up on some of the suggestion soon.
Thanks all,
John.
thank you jholland79 yes it was a bit confusing.
It maybe there is several modems installed, check in system devices for any extra modems.
You could run a modem diagnostic.
Or wrong drivers are installed.
Boot to safemode uninstall any modems. reboot.
Let windows find it if it cannot install the correct drivers you may have to install a generic one based on the modem name.
Check in events administrative tools applications for any errors.
May also be a failing modem.
BSOD errors are either faulty device or incorrect drivers.
Hi Mererte,
With refer to your comment. It is very general comment. If you want someone to believe you, you have to provide evidence.

The first parameter of Bugcheck code 7F is the trap code. Trap code 0d stands General Protection Fault
13 (0Dh): General Protection Fault
Any condition which is not covered by any of the other processor exceptions will result in a general protection fault.
The exception indicates that this program has been corrupted in memory usually resulting in immediate termination of the application. Usually they are caused by hardware.
According to my record, I have 13 cases with confirmed root cause, 11 cases are hardware and 2 cases are software. All of the problems, I can provide the url and it is the evidence. According to my record it 46% is related to faulty ram and it is reason I recommend to run memtest.

Well, I have run Memtest and nothing found. The modem in a different PCI slot gives the same Blue Screen. Some Minidumps are here:

All the minidumps have the same symptoms, it crashes at instruction NDIS!ndisMWanSend+0x4. The culprit is USB Ethernet adapter.

Uninstall the modem, remove the drivers and reboot the pc and let it reinstall the modem.
