Open the Command Prompt, and type this command "systeminfo | more".

as recommended by srames2k and ppfoong, you can find system uptime with the command of systeminfo however if you append find command you will see only the up time without any other details for e.g [systeminfo | find "Up Time" /i] without brackets and with quotation in cmd will only return you system up time
There are number of other ways to find the same thing, another innovative way to do so is, open task manage, open processes tab click on view, select coloum and add CPU time. now the time in CPU time agains the process "system idle" would be your uptime.
to find the O.S installed date use sramesh method
Some simple solutions to get what you want:
1. Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System Information.
For the uptime, you can download this free but amazing program that is really helpful for computer information:
Sysmetrix, you can download it at http://www.xymantix.com/sy
Not only does it show uptime, but you can get weather updates, drive capacities, etc.
Hope this helps :D
Btw, in addition to that, you can download some great free skins for sysmetrix at http://www.wincustomize.co
in case youre interested i can write you a program which gets the installation date from any windows system (for example: xp or 98) and can also give you either the time the system is running or the date/time when it was booted.
i would post the source code (delphi or c++) - just tell me how you want the program to do with the data (should the program be a window displaying the values? a commandline tool which summaries the info? or should the program produce an output file only?...)
to AmigoJack -
its great to hear that, but is it free :) and about how the program should work, personally i think it will be great if it could be create as a windows app. just click and it will display the Installation's Date Time and PC Uptime all without installing the program into the target machine
Thou i know the way to view them now('SYSTEMINFO'), it will be cool to have a program to do that and it will work with other OS beside XP ;)
p/s - ur a programmer? and is it violating the site rules if we discuss this futherly offsite? if not, is it possible we communicate using IM?
cheers,
