asked on

bit bucket and fault bucket

I have seen bitbucket and faultbucket on different computers, but never a good explanation of what the errors mean.

What is a bitbucket?

What is a faultbucket?

Here's a definition of "bit bucket":

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/B/bit_bucket.html
And another one:

http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/bit+bucket

Haven't found much of use on "fault bucket".  This is one page:

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1001&eventno=1629&source=Application%20Hang&phase=1

If you want to subscribe to the website, there is a link for "What is a Fault Bucket?" on that page.

check www.eventid.net for event 1001 errors and you get this:
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1001

As a BitBucket is just a collection of discarded packets, normally by a routing device, it would seem sensible to assume that a Fault Bucket is the same thing for Application Errors.

The faults as described on the page have a number of causes, you're gonna have to see which are the most applicable... good luck!

i have seen these definitions, the definitions are sketchy at best, and have never helped in finding resolution to problems that I was working on.

pretty much the definitions are it is anything discarded.

i am looking for more detailed information like possibly a log file, or information like, what was discarded, and where did it go?

thanks anyway
