Start Menu Items - Right Click -> Explore causing explorer to crash

Asked by Mourdekai in Windows XP Operating System

Tags: start, explorer, menu, crash, click

Just for background, I was recently editing my start menu when somehow instead of pointing to c:\documents and settings\user\start menu it was pointing to another folder altogether.  Anyway, I got that fixed.

But now if I navigate Start -> All Programs and right click a folder that resides either under all users, or my current user (verified by checking the properties) and choose explore, the explorer.exe process will crash, ask me to send an error report (twice) and then restart.

Note that the following does work without error:
Right Click Start -> Explore
Right Click Start -> Explore All Users
Click Start -> Right Click All Programs -> Explore
Click Start -> Right Click All Programs -> Explore All Users
