I run Windows XP Pro SP2, 1.7 AMD Proc, 512MB memory, and for the past week my computer freezes for no apparent reason about 3-12 times a day. Sometimes I have to restart it 3-4 times in the morning, sometimes not. I have run Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, DiskKeeper, etc and don't see any improvement. What could this be a sign of or is there something else I can try?

I would say that heat is your biggest culprit I would after you blow it out make sure it's in a spot it's getting some ventelation heat is spiking all over lately if you can try to add some fans, and make sure all the fans that are in there are running smoothly. it could also be the power supply although this is harder to test. One last thing do you allow your computer to go to sleep? does this seem to happen when coming out of sleep mode? any new drivers could cause this problem, try disabling the sleep mode and see if that helps.

I would check the heat of the PC, reseat the RAM first clean off the dust if it fixes it great. If not, try the CPU next. If you decide to try and reseat the heatsink/procressor make sure that you are very careful and have some thermal grease like Arctic Silver. If you don't have any thermal grease don't remove the heatsink because if you do you it won't create a solid conduction for the heat to go through.

You may have excessive heat buildup. Blow out the dust and reseat the cpu heatsink. Use a temperature monitoring tool to get an idea of the values.
