hmmm, now I am getting a White "?" on that Q icon.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsHi, this is one heck of a problem. I have quicktime's latest version i.e. 7.something and I've been facing a really STRANGE problem for almost a month now. The quicktime videos available online for instance, my favorite www.apple.com/trailers/ doesn't load the trailers anymore, I just get a plain Q icon and thats it. Here's a screenshot: http://img267.imageshack.u
I've tried almost everything I could think of, I did a FULL uninstall/re-install. I've used Firefox, IE7 and Opera, all have the same issues. I've tried to install the QuicktimeAlternative bundle afterwards but to no avail.
Please let me know how to fix this BESIDES a Windows format, I'd happily remove Quicktime again if thats the way to fix it. I miss the trailers :P
Thanks.

Sorry for the speed of comments, I think I've figured out what the flaw is, now you've gotta help me fix it. Quicktime loses the File Type settings as I click Apply and/or OK. When I open the Settings and go to the File Types' tab again, it shows 0 selections.
Basically, the bugger loses the file types to support and hence the problem. Now what?
Finally!
Please take a look at http://img218.imageshack.u
Besides QT you may also need to macromedia and java.

Is this an actual browser plugin or are you simply trying to play quicktime media in a browser, this site you are visiting does it support only QT media player, most use either flash or media player imbedded in their page, they can also use google media player.
Is this the site you are problems with?
http://www.apple.com/trail
I cannot play any of these QT trailers either as I have not paid for QT-7 version, I think you have to buy the version and this allows you access to these trailers.
The other thing I found is you need I-tunes included with it.
I also dont have I-tunes.
See if this solves it for you.
Download free player:
QuickTime 7.1 with iTunes 6
for Windows 2000/XP
http://www.apple.com/quick
Yes i think you need itunes.
the trailers work fine for me at yahoo.
I just played several trailers here.
Have a bit fun ...
You test it too. Choose the beerfest, it then opens to another page click on the beerfest url and it opens an imbedded player. WMP.
http://movies.yahoo.com/tr
Msn video. Also uses WMP imbedded.

If all of these play then maybe your WMP may need to be updated I have WPM 10.
I dont have I-tunes, and my version of QT is 6 so these are the facts for me why those videos trailers dont play for me in the link you provided it is the only one that doesnt so you are not alone there.
Okay I downloaded QT 7 stand alone version..
Actually it does work.
Please try this.
Go here>> http://www.apple.com/trail
Choose Fountain> and it takes you here> http://www.apple.com/trail
then choose from this list on the right>>
Teaser 1<<<< choose this one it says QT 7 required
Trailer 1
High Definition
For your iPod
Official Movie site
Then it takes you here>>http://www.apple.com
and offers Medium large HD and I-pod.
I chose medium just to sample it.
And it plays perfectly.
See, the problem is that it loads the trailers that I dont want to watch, for example, The fountain's trailer loaded but this http://www.apple.com/trail
No, I hate Symantec and its products. I have Windows Firewall degraded to the lowest level you could imagine so there you go.
That plays fine here,
The Grudge 2, it has to load first infront of the play bar you can see it downloading as it moves along.., what speed do you have,
My speed is 2 megs per sec so it loads as fast as it plays.
maybe just wait while until it loads, or inside the actual play screen r/click
plugin settings.
I'll see if I can type in my settings.

Try running a disc cleanup, or delete your temporary internet files.
Do you know sometimes. That is not always
these trailers are saved a temp copy of it in your temporary internet folders?
go to to start menue at the top IE r/click it and properties settings
view files.
Or delete.
In the settings note the amount of disc space to use often times these are set automaticaly to use 1200 megs I reduce mine to around 900 megs, and delete them often.
Oh my, finally, I am not alone! http://discussions.apple.c
I have resolved this problem.
Here's what I did:
• Completely Uninstalled Flash player 8's references using Windows Install Clean Up (I do have Flash 9)
• Uninstalled Quicktime
• Cleaned registry; deleted Apple/Quicktime folders from Local Machine and Current User, also searched the registry using Ctrl+F to find quicktime releated entries and deleted them.
• Deleted c/programfiles/quicktime, c/programfiles/apple folders. Note that I had the "Apple" folders because I had installed the iPod software as well as iTunes...
• Deleted the plugin files in Mozilla Profiles folder and Internet Explorer folders.
• Uninstalledd FFDSHOW, I have a codecs pack and this also was installed separately so I got rid of it.
• Restarted computer.
• Downloaded the installer from www.apple.com/au/quicktime
• Opened the trailer link and boo-hooooooooooooooo! it loaded: http://img201.imageshack.u
Thanks to everyone who contributed but this is how it finally worked, I was hoping for a easier way but what the hell. :-)
