With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. The page cannot be displayed

Hi

I hope somebody can help - I have a strange problem which i haven't come accross before, I have been asked to repair a e-machines PC running XP that was not connecting to the internet via broadband displaying the error - This page cannot be displayed.

I can normally reslove this by removing any viruses/spyware using anti-virus software, adaware, ewido, spybot S & D, cw shredder and one or two others and then resetting the winsock setting with one of the various winsock utilities.

I have run all these utilities and removed anything that was found, after resetting the winsock settings and rebooting, i have been able to connecting to the internet for a couple of minutes only, during this period the PC browses sites normally, but after this i get the same error -  this page cannot be displayed.  I have tried everything i know to rectify this without success.
If i reset the winsock settings again and reboot, I am able to connect and browse the internet again for a couple of minutes.
At this precise moment I am getting the page cannot be displayed error, however I can ping sites from a command prompt which is rather confusing. the same prblem occurs when using firefox so it doesn't appear to be the browser.

any help would be greatly appreciated
