The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM forced shut down computer everytime + no anti virus software installed + no internet

Asked by Yukimin in Windows XP Operating System

Tags: down, shut, system, nt

Hello,
I am having a terrible problem with my computer at the moment. Please bear with me as the explaination of the situation will be pretty long. If anything that needs more details, please tell me. Thanks a lot! (Would've used 500 points..but no points. Anyways that does not matter now) Please help!
Here is the situation:
The cause:
Ok, it might seem a bit stupid..but the problem occurs the second I deleted McAfee (spelling?) because it keeps poping up everytime when  the computer loads up (the warning message saying that the the suscription has been expired. (which my sister never renews) Should've tried to see if anyway to disable first, but -sigh- it already happened) Anyways, when I was deleting McAfee, I selected everything that is in there, even the firewall -_- so everything that comes with McAfee when my sister bought the computer has been deleted. At that time, I was deleting somethign else as well (doubt it matters, but just for detail information) I was also deleting GetRight (The download manager) and something else I forget (I am NOT sure if there was something else or no :/ I forgot.. I think I only deleted those two..but not sure)

The problems:

1) After a while when the desktop finally shows up, there will be an error message:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"the system is shutting down. please save all the works in progress and log off. any unsaved changes will be lost. this shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

time before shutdown: 00:00:21

message
windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.mspx  <- exact that message

2) can't access internet at all *see detail down, thanks*
3) can't use system restore in normal mode *see detail down, thanks*
4) don't have floppy access *see detail down, thanks*
5) Everytime I start up the computer, it takes a while to load.
6) The themes of the computer isn't 'fully' Windows XP theme. what I mean by not fully is because, the task bar is Windows XP theme, and when you open folder it is Windows XP theme, however when you open things such as the Task Manager and some other things, it has Windows Classic theme

What I have tried:
1) I have floppy set up disk to reinstall the OS, but because don't have the floppy drive in my computer, so it doesn't work. Anyways, later on, I tried to use the CD for reinstallation via Safe Mode to reinstall the OS, but there was like error message for twice. One saying that i378 (or something like that) can not be found and can't process upgrade. However, after click ok, it continued to installing. Then later on it gave me another error message 'COM setup' or something like that (sorry I didn't write down exact what that problem was)
So, reinstall OS failed.

2) Tried to use System Restore both through normal mode and safe mode. Normal mode won't let me active any .exe programs (or at least the ones I have tried so far). Safe mode lets me to use system store, however, there is no system restore point besides today.. the day that the problem occurs... so.. it failed as well -sigh-

3) Searched through internet about the problem using my laptop. Found out that there are some programs I could download as most of the sites I have searched so far saying that it is affected by W32.Blaster.Worm. So, since I can still access CD or .exe file through Safe Mode, I downloaded those programs. I downloaded...FixBlast.exe (from Symantec), 2 Security update from Microsoft (Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-026) (2 because I don't know if my computer is 32bit or 64bit.. kinda stupid to download 2..but oh well, I have to try since I don't know which one is mine), and I also downloaded...Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830)
After I downloaded those 4 files, I copied them into my CD, and run them from that computer. None of the MS03-026 works.
Both FixBlast and Removal Tool says nothing is found after a long time of scanning.
So...the one that I think will hopefully work..failed as well.

The computer information is:
Windows XP Home Edition
Service Pack 2 (I believe)

That is all that I can think of and have tried so far now :/ Another one I think I could try is to download some free antivirus software and see if that helps? (just my newb idea though) Please help me, I really want to fix the computer as I was the one that caused the problem. If any more details needed, please tell me. Thanks a lot.

Yuki

UPDATE:
-> I installed ZoneAlarm. However, there is red font says 'Please reboot' when I access it through Safe Mode.
-> When restarting computer by the normal mode, it takes forever to load up the window, and when it loads up. It says the copy of windows needs to be activated. Then, it gets stucked at the screen after I click 'ok'. (I think this is because I tried to reformat the computer? )
Please help, it is really urgent. Thanks!
-> Another thing I notice, hmm is that if I have any CD on the CD-Driver, normal mode won't load up easily (or won't load up . I think it is won't load up. I don't remember any time where it could load up when here is a CD in the CD-driver.)
Thanks a lot.
