Hi all, I'm trying to get this computer working. Windows XP SP2, Sempron processor, ATI Radeon 7500 video car.d Here's the situation:
The user was playing around with output to different monitors (a CRT connected by a VGA connector, and a TV by S-Video). According to his description, there was somewhere a checkbox that said either "enable this monitor" or "disable this monitor", I'm not sure which. Long story short, he ended up disabling the only monitor that was enabled, before having a chance to re-enable the other one, and now he has no video.
I tried the obvious stuff -- Safe Mode and VGA Mode, from the F8 menu at Windows startup; still nothing on the screen. It should be noted that everything appears on the monitor, up to the Windows splash screen. After that you can hear the login sound, and I was able to get into the command prompt ("echo ^G" confirmed that I was at the command prompt).
I took out his video card and am using the MB's built-in video adapter, but it doesn't make a difference. Therefore, it doesn't seem like it's directly related to the driver, but it seems like it's a more global setting.
Anything else I boot from CD works fine.
I went into the XP installation CD's repair console, and tried disabling the ATI2MTAG service (which seems to be the video driver) and also tried all different start-up options (SYSTEM, BOOT, AUTOMATIC, MANUAL) for the VGASave service, but nothing seems to make a difference.
The only thing I thought of trying but could not was to install a different video card, and see if that would force Windows to go to the default video settings, but I don't have another one around at the moment that is compatible with this MB. In any case I suspect that wouldn't work either.
The only thing I can think of is if there's a registry setting somewhere to enable/disable monitors, but I have found nothing yet.
Your help is greatly appreciated, I need to get this fixed as quickly as possible. I'd give out more points if I had any more.
Thanks a lot.
