The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. XP pro hangs at splash screen

For the last 3 months my PC has been intermittently hanging at the XP splash screen. Just recently it has been hanging almost every time the PC is switched on (hard booted).

Once hung the only resolution appears to be:

- pull out power cable
- power cable back in
- press boot button
- F8 on startup
- select Safe Mode with networking
- once booted in safe mode, click on shutdown and then restart
- leave PC to boot normally (and it normally will do)

I have tried the following:

- disabled all but a few programs in startup in msconfig - those that are left have been there long before the problem started
- checked the event log for errors - only info and warnings, although I have to confess to not understanding a lot of what I see :-)
- cleared ntbtlog.txt and have rebooted just now with /BOOTLOG and /SOS enabled and got the following:
