Okay, I'm running Windows XP MCE on my AMD computer. One day when I turned on my computer, I entered my username and password to login, and a strange thing happened: the login screen went away and the Desktop image appeared, then nothing. Hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del brought up the task manager, and there was nothing going on. No processes were doing anything and the CPU usage was at 0%. Normally, the computer has about 68 processes running, but this time there were only 33 running. I could not get past this point trying safe mode, either. There was no change in hardware or software, it was just random.
At this point, I decided to do a repair install of Windows. I booted to the CD and chose to do a repair install. I let the repair install run (I'm familiar with this process from having done it on other computers). After the repair install completed, the system restarted as normal, and when Windows started loading, I got the blue screen error as follows (this is the complete message):
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
Technical information:
***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF79FB528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
That is the entire message. I booted to a Windows Pre-Boot environment CD and checked the drive with CHKDSK. It reported that it fixed errors on the disk, but when I rebooted, I got the same error. The contents of the drive appear intact, but I cannot seem to get Windows to boot. I now have no idea about what to do. Pleas help! I can provide any additional details needed as requested. Thanks!
