Nope, no safe mode, no Last Good Configuration, no anything.
I am going to try to get the updates I need, but skipping the IE 7 upgrade.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI tried installing IE 7 before, and all it did was screw up my computer. It can get to the Windows logo, but before it's fully booted, it will restart. This just keeps going. It gets to the logo and restarts over, and over, and over. I let it go for over an hour and that's all it could do. I ended up formating and reinstalling Windows XP Pro. All was fine until Automatic Updates wanted to install it again. I tried it, and the same thing happened. Is there a reason this is happening, and how do I stop it?

Anyway, the computer restarts on critical error, so you dont actualy see what the error is, press f8 when computer starts, then in the Windows XP boot menu, chose something called disable automatic restart on critical errors. now you will get a blue screen, if you can tell us the error code then we should be able to tell you whats happened.
I right-clicked on my computer>properties>advanc
After I removed it, I got the same problem with the login. That was also mentioned including what causes it. After following those instructions, Windows boots, but can't really do anything. There is no explorer or systemtray. The instructions say to use the restore point to get the computer back up and running. This works, but cancels every update.
One guy points out that these errors only happen on earlier versions of SP2 (2055 and 2096). After upgrading to the final release of SP2, I was able to upgrade everything without any problems.
I couldn't have done it without sakuya_su telling me why my computer kept restarting.

Something in the IE7 install doesnt like your hardware. On a fresh install, the only thing I can see that would cause a crash like that from an application, is either HDD corruption, or a bad driver somewhere.

Personally, I would disable Automatic updates, and in IE6>Tools>Options>Advanced
Can you get into safe mode when it is trying to reboot on you?
