The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Slow resume from standby

Asked by maninblac1 in Windows XP Operating System

In the last few weeks i have been experiencing some slow performance when resuming my laptop from standby.  When i used to resume the machine it took roughtly 3-4 seconds for the screen to come up, and then 2-3 more seconds for the keyboard to become responsive.  Now i'm dealing with performance that may cause my laptop to take 15-20 seconds to resume from standby, my environment is rather volitial so i'm installing and uninstalling apps rather regularly.

Additionally now that it's winter, i've found the colder my laptop is, the longer it takes to resume.  And likewise the longer it has been in standby it, the longer it takes to resume.

My drive is well defragmented, my process load is relatively minimized and i never standby with any applications open.  I'm spyware/etc free.  Is there a reason why this could occur or am i dealing with window's natural decay?  This install is roughly 1 year old now.

I've uninstalled and regcleaned any unneccesary apps from my machine, and most "toy" apps i install are installed to D and not C and i thoroughly wipe them out when they've surpassed their usefulness.  I'm relatively certain my HDD is in good shape though i haven't done a confidence test on it in a month or 2.

I'll investigate any driver/chipset updates that there might be for my hardware, and run a chkdsk at sometime of convineince, just asking the community if they know of anything that might cause this to occur.
