How to enable Standby mode in Windows XP

Hi Gurus : I recently bought a used HP laptop(nc6240 model I think) for my cousin. Has Windows XP professional on it.

It does NOT have STANDBY mode enabled (its there but cannot click on it) & only allows shutting down or Restart. Can you please tell how to enable STANDY mode. I will assign points promptly.

Thanks & Regards

The option to standby or hibernate is located in the Control Panel -> Power Options -> Hibernate tab.  There has to be adequate HDD space on the disk, less page-file, to make this happen.

Sorry did not see Hibernate Tab under Power Options...Thanks
Do you have hibernate support enabled in the BIOS?

Please suggest how to check to see if 'hibernate support is enabled in the BIOS'. If not enabled, please suggest how to do it.

Thanks
