Can I assign them to smaller service host groups via the registry?, I see them in here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Softwar
in netsvcs
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsMy Service host keeps failing at startup, I have to do multiple reboots just to make it stabilize, I've traced it to this one:
svchost.exe 1236 AudioSrv, Browser, CryptSvc, Dhcp, dmserver,
ERSvc, EventSystem, helpsvc, HidServ,
lanmanserver, lanmanworkstation, Netman,
Nla, RasMan, Schedule, seclogon, SENS,
SharedAccess, ShellHWDetection, srservice,
TapiSrv, Themes, TrkWks, W32Time, winmgmt,
wuauserv, WZCSVC
Also I get this error:
Generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close
It seems to have something to do with windows updates that never finish installing, is there a quick fix, or a way to break these services into smaller components to see which one is problematic?

Also '1236 AudioSrv' has a strange behaviour since it should be 'AudioSrv' without the PID, look like it's another process than the original one.
ERSV

A good recomendation is to disable and stop this one ersvc.exe and download a good antivirus and scan your computer.
dmserver
dmserver.exe - dmserver - Process Information
http://www.liutilities.com
But ersvc is legit:
Error Reporting Service
Allows error reporting for services and applictions running in non-standard environments.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchos
http://www.liutilities.com
http://www.greatis.com/app
http://www.ss64.com/ntsynt
Well you are right they could be the right ones or not, so to make it sure stop one by one, and reboot, but i almost sure you have some trojan, virus or spyware.
HidServ (datamining software)
1236 AudioSrv (strange behaviour)
dmserver (spyware)
ERSvc (trojan)
SENS (trojan)
to see the configuration of a service:
sc qc servicename
Also if you can't solve this i would make a pointer Q here: http://www.experts-exchang
I would locate the Executables under these services, and verify they are the proper ones from MS....Right click them and they will tell you what they are....
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
My posting wasnt to insist these were viral, but to push you in the right direction of verifying that they are legit...They just didnt look right at first glance, and alot of viruses will haev the same executable names, but they differ what folders they are in....
Before you disable any services can you run a scan with Hijackthis?
If you've already disabled them, can you enable them again so they show up in hijackthis scan?
Hijackthis is a very good diagnostic tool and it can tell us whether it's caused by malware/viruses or not.
show us a hijackthis log.
http://danborg.org/spy/hjt
Open Hijackthis, click "Do a system scan and save a logfile" don't fix anything yet.
Then upload the log to any hosting sites,
go to the below link and login using your Experts-Exchange username and password.
http://www.ee-stuff.com
Click on "Expert Area" tab
type or paste the link to your Question
"Browse" your pc to the location of your Hijackthis log and click "Upload"
Copy the resulting "url" and post it back here.
OR: either these sites:
http://www.rafb.net/paste/
then at the bottom left corner click "paste"
Copy the address/url and post it here:
http://www.hijackthis.de/
and click "Analyse",
At the top of the analyses, where it says, "The following analyses has been stored temporarily" underneath that, click on "Logfile of Hijac..."
and post the resulting URL back here.

You can try to stop and disable them one by one, then start them again. Before start configuring services remeber the old values.
sc config servicename start= disabled
sc stop servicename
