Have you tried to scan for virus, tojans, spyware, registry?
Run command:
sfc /scannow <enter>
Probably you gonna need your XP installation CD/source.

When I choose last configuration or safe more it does not work. When choosing safe mode even with command prompt it runs until it hits the ABIT-IO.sys file and reboots. I have run chkdsk /r and turned off automatic restart. I have also tried the recovery console
Any ideas would be appreciated

It would appear that you have a corrupt device driver file (abit-io.sys). You could try to extract the file from your mainboard's driver CD and replace it. To fix the problem you will need a blank floppy, your mainboard's driver CD, a Windows XP CD, and another computer to use for extracting the driver file. The corrupt driver file should be located in the C:\Windows\System32\Driver

Hi,
Well i think you should scan your hard drive i mean scan disk on other system, connect your OS hard drive to other system and than SCAN it, surely windows directory is been corrupted or your HD has a problem, other reason is drivers on your OS is not been installed properly, last soultion is to repair your windows with a XP cd i.e is reinstall and i think this will work,
