the example below is just about to the max.. if he tries to save at the end of the path with a longer file name he's toast. and fix it tools out there to extend or even lift the file path limit?

which utilizes the 8.3 naming convention (or in the case of folders, first 6 characters, followed by a ~1)

Try mapping to a portion of the path...
Start->Run->CMD /k net use * "%userprofile%\My Documents\Clients"
See if the file can be saved on that new drive...
Otherwise, try using the subst command...
Start->Run->CMD /k subst r: "%userprofile%\My Documents\Clients"
