The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Dilemma re: Submission Requirements of Magazine Ad (Professional-Style)

Asked by dgage123 in Windows XP Operating System, Adobe Photoshop

My OS is XP Pro & the program regarding this inquiry is Photoshop CS2.

I do graphic arts on the side. When someone wants a logo, I can send them a high resolution JPEG or convert it to a vector in Illustrator CS2. When I create simple advertisements (no photos or detailed graphics), they are usually accepted as a PDF or even a high res JPEG.

This situation is different. I need to submit a 1/6 page ad.
Requirements are:

  *  CMYK, 300 dpi [no problem]

  *  Must include screen & postscript printer fonts
[Does that mean to include a "screen" or a "screen font" -- and what is that?]
[Also, any advice on PostScript fonts? I have some installed, but is it generally acceptable to use Open Type fonts?]

  *  Must be an LPI tiff or EPS file
[Which is better to save from Photoshop? I cannot find a lot of basic info on EPS fonts - any link suggestions. Also, when I previously attempted to save a file as EPS from Photoshop CS2, there were so many options, I wasn't sure which ones to choose and the file didn't work for its intended purpose - though we did not know whose fault it was - my saving it wrong - or - the recipient who wasn't quite sure how to access it properly with his sign-making software.]

  *  They also want a "COLOR MATCH PRINT (not a laserproof) hard copy for color matching of ads".
[Never had to do this before. Any instructions or links to making a color match print? Additionally, is this absolutely necessary if exact color is not an issue?]

Thank you for your help,
From "Trying hard to be graphically intelligent in Nashville"
