The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cannot Print - Printer status ready, print job stuck in que, same on different printers

Asked by Damester in Windows XP Operating System, Printers by HP

Tags: stuck, printer, print, job, que

I have a customer who has a long history of not being able to print.

Originally she had a Epson Stylus printer which would print some of the time but quite often stop between prints or not print at all. The printer Status was always ready.
Not liking the driver support for these printers I advised buying a basic HP deskjet which seemed to do the job fine for a couple of months.
She is now complaining that print jobs build up in the que and sit there or begins to print and then stop half way thriough.
The printer status is always ready suggesting the PC belives all is okay.
This also causes the system to be unable to shut down as the hp process is stuck and manual ending needs to be done before shutdown is allowed.

Taking into consideration that both printers have shown similar problems although it seems it only happens after a while of using the printer say two months it's fair to assume the PC is too blame.
One thing I can think of trying is adding an additional USB card to see if the PC's usb is faulty, (it is a Packard Bell machine, which I think are naff) and plugging the printer into that.

Can someone advise what tests I can do to try and resolve of diagnose the problem and whether a USB PCI card would be advisable.
