Browse All TopicsI have two computers.... one Dell desktop and one Acer laptop. The Dell came with Win Xp preinstalled. The Acer came with Win Xp Pro installed. Dell provided a 'Dell' CD containing the Win Xp operating system files. Acer did not provided any CD, however had installed the O/S files in a hidden partition. I performed a 'repair' of the Win Xp o/s on the Dell. It restored any corrupted files and all is well. I also own a Win Xp Pro SP2 CD. I want to do a 'repair' of the o/s on the Acer laptop. I do not want to reformat the drive... just do a 'repair' to save files, data, etc. Since I was not provided with a CD from Acer, can I do a 'repair' using my Win Xp Pro Sp2 CD or might it conflict with the version preinstalled by Acer?

While I am not 100% sure, I think when you try to do the repair, the repair option will not be available if the CD is incompatible.

I assume we are talking about the "repair install" as described at:
