Changing or Deleting User Profile in Win XP Pro

Asked by LarryExum in Windows XP Operating System, Peer to Peer

Windows XP Professional... I have a 5 computer office, and tend to replace my personal computer annually, I usually move my old one to another location within my office and assign it with different duties, or software.  I like my personal computer to have a computer name of "Prez" so I can promptly recognize it when I am at another node (peer to peer) in my office and am searching for a file, or wish to transfer a file.  The problem comes in when one of two things happen... Pertaining to the Documents and Settings folders.
1.  I purchase a new computer and the vendor has given it a Profile/username of "User" or "Zbx129ujm".  or
2.  I end up with two computers which have "Prez" as a name or Profile.

Is there a way within Windows XP Professional to either change the name of an existing profile folder in the Documents and Settings folder, either by making a change in the Registry, or some other rather simple manner.  I know that I have been frustrated by this in the past and have had to Format and reinstall, which works, but is rather inelegant, and time consuming.  Start Free Trial
