i can not get windows updates installed from downloaded updates. I have windows xp sp2 installed.
i keep getting some updates could not be installed and all updates have failed

(1) Examine the following file with Notepad and see what it gives as the reason:
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistrib
If not sure what it means, copy-and-paste the relevant lines
(2) Make sure date and time are both set correctly on your system
(3) Must be logged in as Administrator for some updates
(4) Check lis link: http://support.microsoft.c

programs.
Please temporarily disable all antivirus components, Web Trap component
of PC-cillin, Surfin Guard Pro, download accelerators/enhancements,
Download Accelerator Plus, spyware applications and other similar
programs.

for the ones that fail, search MS Downloads for the specific KB numbers. This will return pages where you can download the updates to your computer desktop and run them from there. I've had issues with some updates and by manually running them, you have a better chance of seeing where they fail. In many cases, the updates work fine when I install them one by one myself...
