Browse All TopicsHi there!
I 've got an Acer Aspire 1692 WLMi notebook with a built-in 3-in-1 cardreader. At some point in time the driveletters corresponding with the cardreader slots have disappeared. I *think* it may have been some time when I also installed either Daemon tools or Alcohol 120. I already uninstalled the programs, but the drive letters keep missing.
I downloaded the "latest" drivers from the Acer site, but to no avail.
Acer's advice is "just put it back in factory-state". I would rather not do that, 'cause it would mean a lot of work to get it back like I want (not to mention the possibillity of dataloss and so on).
I keep thinking that it might be some kind of registerfault or something, because when I look in System Information, I can see all the USB hosts and controllers. When I remove them, they self-install again, without errors or exclamation marks. Everything seems to be in order, except for the missing driveletters.
And, without those, I can't read the cards... :-(
Is there anyone who can help me, *please*?

Too bad:
@KCTS: cardreader doesn't show up in Disk Management. Otherwise it would have been easy indeed! :-D
@nobus: system restore is disabled, so that's no option either. Otherwise it would also have been easy to restore the wanted situation :-D
Can't remember when the drives were gone either, I have the feeling that it must have been some time when I installed Daemon Tools...
Any other ideas? Anyone?
OK, tried it, but now it constantly is asking for the Windows CD. Problem is: I have an Acer notebook, on which Windows XP Home was preinstalled. Besides, it asks for three different versions of Windows: Windows XP Professional SP2, WIndows XP Home Edition and WIndows XP Home Edition SP2.
I have a folder in which I copied the i386 files, and after that I extracted the SP2.exe into a temp file and copied them into the same folder. So, in my humble opinion, this folder should contain the complete windows installation files with the SP2 files having been copied over the original, leaving a most up-to-date version.
I burned the files to a DVD, but sfc still can't read the files from the drive. The drive itself works though, btw.
Is there a way how I can tell sfc to look elsewhere for the files? maybe a registerhack? Or is there another way to burn a cd/dvd so that sfc can copy the files?
I have a recovery CD though, but I dont; think that windows is on it like sfc wants it, i believe it just boots into norton ghost so windows is installed from a hidden partition.

Right click "My Computer" select Manage. Go to Disk Managment. Find the card reader - right click on it as select "Change Drive Letters and Paths" and assign a drive letter.
