hello all!
i'm having big problems with offline file synchronization... let me hit you with all the facts. i'm currently using Windows XP Pro, under Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2003 platform. a user using the same OS's but using a laptop emailed me last week with an image of his sync screen with errors: -
'Errors occurred while Windows was synchronizing your data'...
in the results box below it said:-
'Offline Files (\\SERVER\SHARE on SERVER): Unable to make FILENAME available offline on \\SERVER\SHARE. The system is currently running with the last-known-good configuration.'
i tried my computer to see if i could simulate the same or a similar problem presuming there would be no issues at all... but mine came up with (in the results box): -
'Offline Files (\\SERVER\SHARE on SERVER): Unable to make FILENAME available offline on \\SERVER\SHARE. Incorrect function.'
i came to the conclusion that if i found an answer for my problem then the other users problem will be very quick to follow. so far i've read up that my issue has something to do with the cached offline files. these have been deleted and for some reason i am unable to increase the dedicated cached storage space for offline files any bigger than 2GB... is this a universal standard thing microsoft has designed in Windows XP?
i've also read up that group policy is where to be to fix it. but this only seems to be relating to the size of the cached offline file storage space. i trust that this is not where the problem lies, as my colleague sat next to me has made a shared folder offline to them and they tested the synchronization out on that... which of course worked as normal.
there was somewhere i have read about creating a new folder and copying over the cached files into there and deleting the old cached folder... this sounded a bit hairy to me and i didn't to remove anything if it can be avoided.
fortunately it is not so much of a big problem with offline files in my case, as i have a tower rather than a laptop. but the other user with the problems of they're system running using the last known good config... they do use a laptop and need this fairly urgent.
any help will be greatly appreciated!
Adam.
