It was the HP drivers hosing everything. Thanks for the help.

Browse All TopicsHello,
I have a client who cannot print to either his local or any LAN printers as the error stating the spoolsv.exe has stopped (and it has) and that the offender is ZSR.dll. I found a bit of info here, but none of it relates to my issue. There is something in the spooler subsystem going awry. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jim

OK if you are using an HP Laser Jet 10XX printer here is a workaround. After you clean out the spool as documented above don't call HP support because they will blame Microsoft and Adobe.
As a work around you can change the driver to an HP LJ 6L. This will print slow but it will not crash your entire system.
I have not fully tested it but I changed the resolution to 600 DPI using the HP LJ 1022 driver and some I have not had these crash since. So you can try to install the printer with the add printer wizard and choose have disk. Point it to the .inf file to install the driver (Don't use the setup that comes with the driver). Then set the resolution to 600 DPI. Check out the link on HP's forums seems like lots of people have this problem with these HP printers.

To quote from the link given below:

If the Print Spooler service fails when printing, when Windows starts or it can not be restarted, the usual reason is that one or more printer drivers is defective.
This page has some very good advice on how to clean up installed printer drivers so that you can reinstall the printer and hopefully correct your problem:
