Browse All TopicsI am running Windows XP Home on a recently built Athlon-64 x2 3800 based computer. It has all of the most recent Windows updates installed. When it boots, it "hangs" on the Windows Welcome screen. However, as soon as I press the <Esc> key, it continues to boot normally, i.e., the desktop immediately appears and the startup programs continue loading. I have tried to use BootVIS without much success. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this "hang"?
Thanks.
Michael

I've had this happen several times and usually the OS was waiting on something before proceeding.
Things to look for.
Do you have any network interfaces that are on DHCP? Waiting for an IP address takes some time before it times out and windows carries on.
Make sure you don't have any blank cds/dvds in the drives as that can also cause windows to wait if it's trying to read the media.

There being a message that can't be shown would explain why esc all of a sudden kicks it back into gear.
