Browse All TopicsI've just switched from Win98 to WinXP. I've disabled taskbar grouping, as I find that an annoyance. However, without taskbar grouping I find that the task designations are each truncated to *one* letter, that may appear to have no relation to the particular task.
In Win98 depending on how crowded the taskbar was, sometimes the designation was reduced to one letter (or even less), but that was not generally a problem -- and certainly when the taskbar was uncrowded the full designation displayed.
Is there any way in which I can see the proper task designation with grouping disabled?

Maybe install IE7 and see if that fixes it. IE7 is much better anyway.

Windows XP should show you the full (or as much as it can fit) name of the program that is one the taskbar button. Have you tried to set to Grouping then back to not? This does not solve your problem, but may make it less of a nuisance... install a program called Visual Task Tips. Gives a bit of a Vista feeling with VERY LITTLE resources used.

I will try to research some more on your problem, but for now, try to select grouping, apply, the unselect, and apply again. See if that fixes it.
