winxp corrupted system in the config durectory
Hi X-perts,
I have posted a few postings, but nobody seem to give me a clue. here are the symptoms:
1) winxp does not reboot. A standard message saying that the system file in the system32/config is missing or corrupted
2) replacing the config files by the last good set of files does not help. I know that those files are OK, because used them to restore the system a few weeks ago
3) replacing the files by very old ones from the windows/repair works SOMETIMES - only for one reboot. Then the situation repeats and the system cannot get loaded
4) checking the disk for viruses does not show any. I have connected the HDD as an external drive to the 2nd computer
4) NOD32 return warning "Error reading MBR". I am not sure that it is a REAL problem or something related to permissions
What is the best way to fix the problem? I really do not want to reinstall the windows...
Any solutions, please.
