Why Windows XP everytime asks password for connecting with other System?

I've computer LAB with 60 PC's. they're all in Workgroup enviroment and there's a fileserver for some sharing resources which has  Windows 2003 installed. My many computers don't ask for password to connect it but some of these do ask for a password. I checked the box that remember the password but it always ask for the password. Please help me how can the password should I saved for future use...?

Quite likely a cached password interfering with teh current credentials being parsed from the client to the shared resource...

start>run>control userpasswords2>advanced>manage passwords, and clear any entries....

Then retry.....

There is something else to try if John's suggestion doesn't resolve the problem -

If I remember rightly, in a workgroup, if you don't want to continually get that window, you'd need to a local account for that user on the server, and another on the client PC, both with exactly the same username and password.

So you'd have 2 accounts for that particular user, 1 on the server and 1 on the client PC - If the password is not identical then it will ask every time.

e.g.

<Servername>\Peter.Thomas password = p4$$w0rd
<clientname>\Peter.Thomas password = p4$$w0rd

So my suggestion would be to reset the users password on the SERVER, to EXACTLY the same as the password the user uses to log on to the PC.

I'm not 100% on this, but pretty sure that's the case. Hope that helps! :)

Johnb6767, thanks for your reply and it works somehow...! Is there any way to copy that cache password file from the system and copy to another computer? Means copy from that computer which access to that server and copy to that computer which asks for the password, so that 2nd computer which asks for the password wouldn't ask again :)..! Is there any way to do it...?

No....

Thats stored in Protected Storage in the registry, a hive you normally ccant even see unless you are logged into the machine as SYSTEM.

If you clear the PSW on the machine acessing the other, and then use the correct PSW that the machine being accessed, then it will match up......

Then you dont need to worry about exporting anything....
