Random user profile created in C drive, Documents and settings

I have a Dell 700M using XP Home.

I removed the ONE main hard drive while my computer's power supply was getting fixed. I needed to access some info from the hard drive so I purchased a cable to utilize it as an external drive. When I connected the hard drive in question to another computer, it wouldn't allow me to access the info on the drive  (I supposed because either files were hidden or another permissions situation). I had to "Take control" of the hard drive by changing permissions for sharing - I did and I was then able to access it.  When the computer came back and I put the hard drive back in, I had a similar issue in which I couldn't access the information until I "Took control/changed permissions" of the hard drive, which I did again and alas, I could get into the hard drive.

However:

After doing so, I have a random addition to my "C drive - Documents and settings". I only have ONE profile on this computer and it's "Adam". In docs and settings, it lists:

Adam
Adam.yesyeah.2 (??????)
All Users
Default users
Guest

"yesyeah" is the name of my computer by the way.

That "adam.yesyeah.2" is the folder that seems to have all the information from my drive on it - it has the "my docs" folder that had all my files etc   At one point last night, I was able to get rid of "Adam" but it regenerated itself with "default" settings.

It seems that somehow, the computer wants to have just "adam" there (as that is my profile name) but everything is pointing to "adam.yesyeah.2"    When I try and open a file, say, a Microsoft Excel document from within My Docs on "adam.yesyeah.2", Excel will start loading and quickly say it's "installing" itself. Then it will say it can't find Excel - and when I cancel out, it will eventually open up. But it's as if all my applications and programs, don't know where it's located and don't know what to do with itself (I tried Mozilla thunderbird too - it starts like it's never been started before).

I want to get my computer back to how it was. I cannot delete or rename "adam.yesyeah.2"   I suppose there is a permissions problem. Somehow, I need "adam" and "adam.yesyeah.2" to combine forces so that all my applications and programs are working together again.

Does anyone know anything about this issue? It's very hard to explain without verbalizing so I appreciate your help in advance.
