I have a network of about 70+ client PC's and recently (within the last three weeks) three laptops (Dell Lattitude D620's) running Windows XP, Intel Chip and 2 GB RAM have been experiencing similar issues. On shutdown, they all have a End Program - DDE Server Shutdown box pop-up. Sometimes they need to push the button 5 plus times to rid the message. They are also receiving some Event Log messages around this shutdown time which I attached (not 100% certain if they are directly related but I'm pretty sure) I have tried the following:
- Installed via MS Knowledge base article - 2005 Redristb C++ Package - Disabling or verifing that the Network DDE Services are disabled - Reinstalled Office 2003 (pertained to the SideBySide event log messages) - Virus / Spyware Scans - Windows Updates / Office Updates - Ran CCleaner to clean out any junk
