The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Does Windows Defender have any value other than taking up increasing space on my hard drive?

Tags: Microsoft, Windows Defender, 1.1.1592.0, unaware of any malware/virus detection, All I see is space being taken up by definition-version(?) updates

My  question relates to being unable to determine just what value Windows Defender contributes to my operating system other then taking up increasing space on my hard drive as I continue to update its definitions when notified by Windows Update that such are available.

I recognize this may possibly be due to not having enabled some notifications or some capabilities via the program preferences due to my ignorance.  Therefore my question may turn out to be a request for step-wise instructions on just how to set the preferences for maximum protection by the program and the way in which I can be made aware that it is doing its job of protection.  I realize that the answers to this question may not be particularly difficult but I tend to ask specific questions that I would like specific answers  for and have given more points than might be needed based on the difficulty of the answer.
