spooler subsystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close

Asked by SupermanTB in Windows XP Operating System

I have a Windows XP Pro machine w/ a HP Laserjet 1020 that gets the error mentioned in the title.  I get this error when I start up the computer or when I try to start/stop the print spooler service.  I've looked over several PAQs and found the following solution.

- Next, open the C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers folder.
- Delete all the .SHD and SPL files from this folder.

Once I do that restart the computer everything prints fine for little while.  I've actually restarted the computer multiple times w/o any problem.  However, as some point, several hour later, the error message returns and I am unable to print again.  Any ideas?Start Free Trial
