Have you run a comprehensive virus/adware check? I have seen this with a couple of Trojans called DLDER.EXE, and a spoofed Explorer.exe. The Explorer.exe file is located as c:\windows\explorer\Explor er.exe. Check for an Explorer FOLDER under your Windows directory.

dlder.exe is to do with a stuck and hangin explorer.exe on shutdown not a connections tray hang,

Also run hijackthis http://www.hijackthis.de/en and post your log file. This will help determin if you have a virus/malware.
