Windows Freezes After Being Idle

Just a little background information before I state the problem:

Computer Specs:
Pentium 4 3 GHz
1536 mb RAM
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2(Recently Downgraded)
150 gb Hard Drive-Seagate(1 Partition) Windows Installation
300 gb Hard Drive-Maxtor(2 Partitions) Extra Space
Radeon 9200 Series Graphics Card 256mb
HP DVD Writer 8x

Before Problem:
I just recently updated to Windows SP3, then downgraded due to this problem. I THINK I tweaked my memory performance settings, I say think because I do not know if the settings saved; that was a while ago.

After Problem:
I have just defraged all Hard Drives and Registry, done Virus and Mal ware scans.

The problem I have been getting is Windows stops responding completely, nothing works: Mouse, keyboard, CTRL + ALT + DEL, even the clock stops. I then have to hard boot and try again. It usually happens when I go idle for some time, yet some times it can be completly random.

Any ideas?

You could try rolling back your video card driver.  If this locks up with a problem nothing will respond on your system until you reboot.
Also check your event log to see if any error are being reported...

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging operation.

I didn't think to check the event viewer. I found that that error was pretty around the down times, what does it mean if you don't mind me asking?
I also found this:

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D.

This problem is typically caused by a failing cable that connects the drive to the computer.

Will do, once I saw someone say hard drive failure, I quickly started moving my stuff to a different HD. Then the most important docs to a flash drive.

I'll take a look at the Diagnostic Tool.

Ok, but please bear in mind that it is also quite likely that the cable referred to earlier is the culprit, as unusual as that may sound!

There is also a *slight* possibility that your chipset drivers may need updating.
It does sound unusual. Yet in fact it hasn't happened in a couple of hours. I'm going to try something that I was doing at the time and see if I crash from it and get back to you.
The problem hasn't arisen anymore after the chkdisk and hard drive utils. If it does I'll replace the cable and HD. Thanks =)
