.EXE Links corrupt

I have a machine that has an issue with .exe files. They are all changed to .lnk extensions and don't function. There is plenty of reference to this error on EE but none seem to work for me. Also on logon on there is a box that pops up with some foreign code. Sometimes it makes reference to a file in the temp directory which makes me think of virus. I have pulled the drive out and scanned it on another machine using Trend Micro PC Cillen 2008 and it comes back clean. Start Free Trial
