CPU usage 100% when viewing youtbue video and flash content websites with internet explorer and firefox

hard ware - 1.50 ghz proc, 2 gig ram, windows xp sp 2  fujitsu siemens amilo pro laptop

A few weeks ago my computer just started to girnd to a halt everytime I watched youtube or visit a flash website.  I've done everyhing i can thinjk of after reading other posts but it seems that for about 3 mins when i initally open explorer or firefox it is ok, then the cpu usage shoots to 100% and doesnt drop for ages sometimes i even have to completely power down - a restart is not sufficent.  I have also recently re-installed windows as a last ditch attempt to fix this but it is still the same
