my documents, how to get it to show up as maxamized when I open it

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows how to change the settings on windows xp, so whenever I open the my documents folder, it shows the window as maximized. Whenever I open it, it doesnt fully expand. I have also had this problem with internet explorer. Here is a screen shot just for clarification:
