I keep getting an lsass.exe application error when I boot up my laptop running Windows XP SP2. If I click okay, I get a 60-second system shutdown message. If I leave the window up, I can function. It doesn't happen when I use my docking station, but is pretty consistent when booting without. I've seen it boot correctly when my wireless was disabled. Sometimes, it doesn't get past the initial windows boot up screen.
I've scanned with several different scanners and all say I'm clean. I have TrendMicro OfficeScan and in the logs it says I picked up viruses on April 28, 2008. They are:
EXPL_ANICMOO.GEN, JAVABYTEVER.BJ, JAVABYTEVER.DL, JAVABYTEVER.DK, JAVABYTEVER.BK and TSC_GENCLEAN (I had disabled Windows Firewall during the day and had forgotten to re-enable it.)
OfficScan says it cleaned TSC-GENCLEAN but couldn't clean or delete the others. As I mentioned subsequent scans have been clean and when I looked for the infected files they were no longer on the system.
I checked for the Sasserworm and found nothing. I haven't found any correlation between the error and these viruses.
I've read through all of the posts on this error and have tried all but a memory check. Also, I tried to use safe mode but couldn't log in. My account is an administrator account, but the domain is my company domain, not the local computer name. Should that matter? I could change the administrator password and try to use that I suppose, but I'd rather not since I'm not in the IT department.
How do isolate the cause for this error? How do I fix it?
