Can only run programs as Local Administrator

Hello there,

My account is typically a non-roaming domain account (ABC\kmoloney) where ABC is our company domain.  Because its non-roaming, I can login at home, while not connected to the domain.  The ABC\kmoloney user account is a member of Administrators on the local machine, and in the Active Directory of the ABC domain.  I have never used the local account (WORSKSTATION\kmoloney); I have always been able to login as kmoloney with the domain set as ABC, regardless of whether or not I was in the office or at home.

I have also always been able to download and install software, and run it under this account.

Recently I have noticed that some applications, which used to run perfectly fine, will not run unless I do so using the "Run As..." and the local administrator account, WORKSTATION\kmoloney.

The applications I've noted this problem with are Paint.Net and Liquid Solutions' XML studio.  When trying to run Paint.NET, I just get a "ding," with no further information.  When trying to run XML Studio, I get the following error:

Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger
An unhandled exception ('System.ComponentModel.W32Exception') occurred in XmlStudio.exe [7284].

An asks if I wish to use one of two debuggers (New instance of Microsoft CLR Debugger 2005, or New Instance of Visual Studio 2005).

I tried uninstalling the applications, and reinstalling.  I noticed that I could only install the applications as WORKSTATION\kmoloney, and still can only run them on this account using the "Run As..." command.

I looked at the permissions for the applications and their respective Program Files/Folders, and added "Everyone" with full control.  I changed to owner to ABC\kmoloney.  None of this has any effect.

Things that might be affecting it:

Recently, a new version of Symantec Antivirus was installed on my machine through Group Policy (Symantec Endpoint Protection, version 11.0.2000.1567).

I installed, briefly ran, and then uninstalled, Visual Basic 2008 express, and Visual Studio Web Developer 2008 express (which also installed Microsoft .Net framework 3.5).  I've since uninstalled these apps, along with the .Net framework 3.5 and Net Framework 3.0 update).  Still have the same problem.

It seem odd that this only affects certain programs, but I'm thinking it may be because the applications might have been written using a certain .NET framework, and the installation of .NET might have affected it, even though uninstalling it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Of course, I might totally be on the wrong trail there.  Any help would be appreciated, at least to try to identify the problem.Start Free Trial
