The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. svhost  uses 100% of cpu

Got 2 Windows computers in the past 3 days with the same problem one is xp media center the othe xp pro.  Figured out the problem is related to windows updates and windows defender. Either on will start a system svhost that uses 76,000 k (1 system that is 50% the other that equals 100% of the cpu). If I end tast on the svhost the computers both work great. Finding no adware or viruses on either. Did a Google search and applied the svhost patch from about 1 year ago but that did not help at all. If I Turn off windows updates all seems to be fine. Noticed a strange thing when I turned off the updates that it did not open  the security center warning, but the security center warning did show up after a restart of the computers. Figured I could just do a windows updates manually and it would be ok but as soon as I go to windows updates it starts the svhost again with the same result and the computers are locked up. There are no error mesages. Now do I fix this problem. Thank You in advance
